A year ago our oldest granddaughter hatched and raised 6 chicks Grandpa built her a chicken coop. With the help of some unknown varmint and the extreme heat only one of the original 6 survived. A few months later she bought 5 more. She fed, watered, and tended to them faithfully. Just last month they started to lay, big beautiful, green, pink, and white eggs. The backyard coop has become a family project, evenings on the porch are spent “chicken watching” and collecting eggs is a great reward for all that work during the heat of the summer and those cold mornings before school.
